Shoresh
   Shoresh (Revolution) was a small, short-lived Kurdish communist party formed in Iraqi Kurdistan in 1943 and named after its journal. It played an active role in Kurdish politics until it finally dissolved itself in 1946, largely because of pressures caused by Mulla Mustafa Barzani and the new all-embracing Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) that was established on 16 August 1946.
   Hamza Abdullah, the first secretary-general of the KDP, had been an active member of Shoresh. For many years thereafter there was a Kurdish section of the Iraqi Communist Party. In 1988, this Kurdish section was one of the smaller founding members of the Iraqi Kurdistan Front.
